Some wedding days are beautiful because of the details.
Others are beautiful because of the people.
Sophie and Mitchell’s wedding day was both.
From the moment the day began, there was a calm excitement in the air. The morning started with Sophie getting ready alongside her closest friends and family at the Arizona Biltmore while Mitchell spent the morning with his groomsmen at The Abbey in downtown Phoenix.
One of my favorite parts of the day was watching how intentional they were with every moment. Nothing felt rushed. Nothing felt forced. They truly took the time to soak in each part of the day as it unfolded.
Before heading to St. Mary’s Basilica, Sophie and Mitchell shared a private first look at The Abbey. Tucked away from the rest of the wedding day, they exchanged private vows and had a chance to simply be together before everything officially began. These are always some of my favorite moments to photograph because they’re real, emotional, and completely about the couple.
The Abbey provided the perfect backdrop for their portraits. The historic architecture, dramatic textures, and timeless character of the space created such a romantic atmosphere. Every corner felt like it was made for storytelling.
After portraits, we made our way to St. Mary’s Basilica in downtown Phoenix for the ceremony.
Walking into the Basilica never gets old. The architecture, the light pouring through the stained-glass windows, and the sense of history within those walls create an atmosphere unlike any other venue in Arizona. As Sophie walked down the aisle, you could see every emotion on Mitchell’s face. It’s moments like those that remind me why I love photographing weddings.
Following the ceremony, we spent time capturing family portraits before returning to The Abbey to continue celebrating with friends and family.
As the evening unfolded, the energy shifted from emotional to celebratory. Guests filled the courtyard, heartfelt toasts were shared, and the dance floor stayed packed as everyone celebrated the beginning of Sophie and Mitchell’s next chapter together.
One thing that stood out throughout the entire day was how loved these two are. Every interaction, every hug, every speech, and every smile reflected the incredible community surrounding them.
If you’re planning a wedding at St. Mary’s Basilica, The Abbey, or anywhere in Arizona and are looking for a photographer who values genuine moments and timeless imagery, I’d love to hear more about your day.
