Key Takeaways
If you are getting married at McCormick Ranch Golf Club in Scottsdale, you have a lot to work with for your wedding photos. The ceremony lawn offers water, greenery, golf-course views, and Camelback Mountain. The rest of the property gives you even more options for portraits throughout the day.
I’m Ricky, owner and lead photographer of Good Eye Photography in Arizona. I’ve photographed weddings at McCormick Ranch several times. Over the years, I’ve learned which areas work best for photos, how a first look can improve the timeline, and what couples should consider when choosing where to get ready.

McCormick Ranch Golf Club offers a wedding setting built around the Arizona landscape. The ceremony site sits along the lake, with Camelback Mountain in the distance. The venue also has the West Lawn Pavilion and other event spaces for weddings and receptions.
From a photography perspective, the variety is one of the best parts of the venue. You can use the water, mountains, palm trees, greenery, and golf course throughout the day.
That means your wedding gallery does not have to look like every photo was taken in the same place.
One of my favorite things about photographing McCormick Ranch is the variety. You can get several different looks without spending your wedding day driving to different locations.
The ceremony lawn is one of my favorite spots at the venue.
The lawn sits next to the water, with Camelback Mountain in the distance. You also have greenery, palm trees, and the golf course around you.
Together, these details create a strong Arizona look without making the photos feel too desert-focused.
If you want your wedding photos to immediately feel like Scottsdale, this is a view I would make sure to use.

After the ceremony, I like taking couples farther into the property for portraits.
For TJ and Kaelyn’s wedding, we went deeper into the golf course. We used Camelback Mountain, palm trees, water, and a small bridge in their portraits.
Each area gave us something different to work with.
That variety kept their gallery from feeling like we took every photo in front of the ceremony site.
The water adds another layer to your wedding portraits. It can look especially beautiful in the evening light.
I like using the water, palm trees, open space, and greenery to create portraits that feel natural and a little more editorial.
Movement also works really well here. We can walk, run, interact, or simply enjoy each other. Those moments often feel more natural than standing still and holding the same pose.

In my opinion, yes.
A first look is one of the things I strongly recommend for couples getting married at McCormick Ranch. It can make the entire timeline feel more relaxed.
The ceremony can take place later in the day. If you wait to do every portrait after the ceremony, your time can get tight.
A first look lets us take care of several important photos before your guests arrive for the ceremony.
That can include:
Once the ceremony ends, we don’t have to spend your entire cocktail hour taking family and wedding party photos.
Instead, we can focus on you.
You can enjoy the fact that you’re officially married. Then we can head out for more couple portraits during the best evening light.
That extra flexibility can make a big difference.

Your ceremony start time deserves some extra thought at McCormick Ranch.
The ceremony lawn is beautiful, but it does not offer a lot of shade. During warmer months, that can make a big difference for you and your guests.
For a warm-season wedding, I recommend planning the ceremony as close to the cooler part of the day as your schedule allows.
November and December give you more flexibility because the weather is usually more comfortable.
Your wedding date also matters because sunset changes throughout the year. I recommend building your timeline around sunset if golden-hour portraits are important to you.
This is another reason I like first looks at McCormick Ranch.
Instead of trying to fit every portrait into the short time after the ceremony, we can use the earlier part of the day.
For example, we can complete your first look, wedding party photos, and family photos before the ceremony. Afterward, we can focus on your newlywed portraits.
This makes the timeline feel less rushed.
You also get more time to enjoy your cocktail hour and your guests.
The final portraits of the day are often some of my favorites.
With TJ and Kaelyn, the evening light gave us the chance to use several areas of the property. We had the golf course, Camelback Mountain, palm trees, water, and other scenery to work with.
The couple was also very connected and comfortable together. That made a big difference.
When a couple is having fun and enjoying each other, I don’t need to create every moment. I can give them some direction and let them interact naturally.
That combination of direction, movement, and good light creates some of my favorite photographs.
This is one detail couples may not think about when looking through wedding galleries.
You may see beautiful getting-ready photos from a McCormick Ranch wedding and assume they were taken inside the venue.
That is not always the case.
From my experience, the venue is not always the best option for morning getting-ready photos. Early in the day, there can be limited shade and less flexibility for creating the look you may want.
For that reason, I recommend considering an Airbnb, hotel, resort, or another nearby location.
Look for a space with good natural light and clean backgrounds. Make sure there is enough room for your wedding party to move around.
A good getting-ready location can give you room for:
If getting-ready photos are important to you, this decision is worth thinking about early.
Your photographer can create beautiful photos in many locations. Still, a space with good light, clean backgrounds, and enough room will make the process much easier.

TJ and Kaelyn’s wedding is a great example of what I love about photographing McCormick Ranch.
For their portraits, we went farther into the golf course instead of staying around the ceremony and reception areas.
That gave us Camelback Mountain, palm trees, water, and the bridge as part of their gallery.
We also changed the way we photographed them throughout the session.
Some photos showed them walking. Others had more movement and playful moments. We also took more directed portraits and gave them time to simply be together.
Then the evening light started coming in.
That is when everything really came together.
TJ and Kaelyn were incredibly connected throughout their portraits. You could see it in the way they looked at each other and interacted.
They were comfortable together, and that made the photos feel natural.
As a photographer, that is the kind of environment I want to create.
You do not need to know how to pose.
My job is to give you enough direction to feel confident while leaving room for real moments to happen.

If you are already booked at McCormick Ranch, start thinking about your photography timeline early.
I would focus on three things.
First, consider doing a first look.
Second, choose your ceremony time based on the season, heat, shade, and sunset.
Third, think carefully about where you will get ready. The location you choose in the morning can have a big effect on the look of your wedding gallery.
Then leave some room for your photographer to explore the property with you.
McCormick Ranch does not need to be photographed from one spot. Some of my favorite images there come from moving around, finding different backgrounds, and letting the light change throughout the evening.

Yes. The venue offers water, greenery, golf-course scenery, palm trees, and Camelback Mountain. These elements give you plenty of variety without leaving the property.
I strongly recommend it. A first look lets us complete family, wedding party, and some couple portraits before the ceremony.
That leaves more time after the ceremony for newlywed portraits and golden-hour photos.
The golf course offers some of the best scenery for portraits. You can use mountain views, water, palm trees, and the bridge to create different looks.
Your photographer should always confirm portrait locations and timing with the venue.
I recommend looking at nearby Airbnbs, hotels, or resorts if getting-ready photos are important to you.
Choose a space with good natural light, attractive interiors, clean backgrounds, and enough room for your wedding party.
There is no single ceremony time that works for every wedding. Your wedding date and season will play a big role.
During warmer months, I would pay close attention to the heat and limited shade. During cooler months, you will have more flexibility.
The combination of water, golf-course scenery, greenery, palm trees, and Camelback Mountain gives your photographer a lot to work with.
You can create a variety of portraits without spending your wedding day traveling between different locations.
